qBittorrent is a cross-platformfree and open-sourceBitTorrent client.

qBittorrent is a native application written in C++. It uses Boost, Qt 5 toolkit, and libtorrent-rasterbar library (for the torrent back-end). Its optional search engine is written in Python.

qBittorrent was originally developed in March 2006 by Christophe Dumez,[1] from the Université de technologie de Belfort-Montbéliard (University of Technology of Belfort-Montbeliard) in France.

It is currently developed by contributors worldwide and is funded through donations,[8] led by Sledgehammer999 from Greece, who became project maintainer in June 2013.[9]

Along with the 4.0.0 release a new logo for the project was unveiled.[10][11]

In the qbittorrent UI, i also set the option to download to the folder /data/torrents. Added a new torrent file, watched it progress to 100% and when I look in File Manager on my Synology NAS, the location of the downloaded files is directly under /data, not under /data/torrents as expected. qBittorrent is cross-platform, available on many operating systems, including: FreeBSD, Linux, macOS, OS/2 (including ArcaOS and eComStation),[13]Windows.

QBittorrent is now available in official Ubuntu repositories since v9.04 'Jaunty'. More up-to-date packages are published on our stable and unstable PPAs. The stable PPA supports Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (only the libtorrent-rasterbar package), 18.04 LTS, 18.10, 19.10 and 20.04 LTS. QBittorrent is an interesting alternativ to the well-known µtorrent. A program that offers many interesting options for those users who need to download torrents. The main feature we can highlight is the search box. As of July 2017, SourceForge statistics indicate that the most popular qBittorrent version of all supported platforms, 81% of downloads were for Windows computers.[14]

As of May 2020, FossHub statistics indicate qBittorrent as the second most downloaded software with over 75 million downloads.[15]

In 2012, Ghacks suggested qBittorrent as a great alternative to μTorrent, for anybody put off by recent controversial ad and bundleware changes made to μTorrent.[17]
